Unit 1  How often do you exercise?< xmlnamespace prefix ="o" ns ="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

Period 3

Teaching aims:

After this lesson, students will be able to

1.        use the words & phrases: milk, coffee, chocolate, drink, health, want sb to do sth, be good for, how many, how much.

2.        talk about how often they do things.

3.        listen for the specific information.

Keys & Puzzles:

1.        Words & phrases: want sb to do sth, be good for, how many, how much

2.        Talk about how often they do things freely.

Teaching aids:

1.         Some cards, pictures and a tape-recorder.

 

Teaching procedures:

Step 1   Warm-up & Lead-in

1.       Greetings.

2.       A dictation: hardly ever, once, twice, three times, surf the Internet, program, result, as for.

3.       Read aloud the article on page 3.

4.       Free talk:

A: How often do you eat fish?

B: I eat fish three times a week.

A: Do you like it?

B: Yes/ No….

Step 2   Word power

1.       Show some pictures and name them. Then show some other pictures and learn the new words:

fish, meat, beef, chicken, hamburger, …

junk food, milk, coffee, chip, cola, chocolate, drink

2.       Matching. (SB Page4 < xmlnamespace prefix ="st1" ns ="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" />1a) Matching the words with the pictures.

 

Step 3   Group work

1.        Make conversations using the words in 1a.

A: How often do you eat fruit?

B: I eat fruit every day.

A: Do you like it?

B: Yes. It’s good for my health.

2.        Show the conversations.

3.        Read aloud the dialogue in the right box in 1b.

Ask the Ss to translate the sentence into Chinese: But my mother wants me to drink it. She says it’s good for my health.

1)      want sb to do sth: “想要某人做某事”

2)      be good for: “对……有益,对……有好处”

Ask the Ss to make sentences with the two phrases.

4.        Make similar conversations in groups and then act them out in front of the class.

 

Step 4   Listening

1.  Listen for the specific information.

T: OK. So we should eat healthy food. Now you’ll hear a reporter interview two people, Katrina and Bill. And answer the two questions:

1) Who does not like exercising?  ( Bill)

2) Do they both like junk food? ( Yes, they do.)

2.  Listen and write.

Play the tape for the Ss to listen to the recording twice and ask them to fill in the blanks in the survey in 2b.

3.       Check the answers in groups and read aloud the questions and answers.

4.       How many + 可数名词复数 ; how much + 不可数名词:

How many questions can you answer?

How much coffee do you want to drink?

 

Step 5   Group work

(SB Page 4, 2c)

1.  Ask the students to make conversations using the information in 2b and 2c.

  A: Hello.

  B: Hi.

  C: Hello.

  A: Can I ask you some questions?

  B/C Sure.

  A: How often do you exercise, xxx?

  B: I exercise every day.

  A: How about you, xxx?

  C: I hardly ever exercise.

  ……

2.         Show Time: Three students from each group act their conversations out before the class. And then one student from each group reports the results to the whole class.

 

Step 6   Homework

1.       Sum up the whole lesson.

2.       Revise the words and phrases. Try to make sentences with the words and phrases.

3.       Write an article about how often you do things.
